Saghir’s story

Saghir's story

"If you have the space in your home and heart, you are the
perfect person."

A woman helps a boy with his schoolwork.

Saghir originally considered training as a social worker. She wanted to care for children, give them love, support and a home. Fostering felt like the most direct way to do that, and she has not looked back. She has been fostering for more than ten years, caring for children of all ages across short-term, long-term and respite placements.

Keeping siblings together

Saghir’s most rewarding moment came when she was able to keep a sibling group of four children together. “Keeping a sibling group of four children together and maintaining their relationships, culture and experiences,” she says. “That meant everything.”

Her advice to you

Saghir encourages anyone thinking about fostering to do their research, speak to other carers, and reflect honestly on what they can offer.

“If you have the space in your home and heart, you are the perfect person.”
